Nightshade Free Curry Powder

Nightshade Free Curry Powder - Roxie.net

I love curry. Ok really, I just seem to love anything with turmeric. Which includes curry. However, I noticed I was reacting to my super yummy Curried Chicken and didn’t know why. I looked at the ingredients and there it was. Mysterious “spices” which is usually code for paprika. And MSG. And we just don’t need that kind of junk in our lives so, I needed to come up with my own blend of Nightshade Free Curry Powder.

Making your own spice mix is cheaper, plus you can control the concentrations of the various spices, and omit the ones that you do poorly with. I’m changing my Nightshade Curry Powder all the time, this is just the current variation. If you’re strict AIP, you may need to leave out the coriander, cumin and nutmeg entirely; or, if you’ve successfully re-introduced them perhaps use smaller amounts to be safe. If you don’t have a problem with these spices, perhaps even increase the amount of cumin & coriander to suit your palate.

For a comprehensive list of spices that should be avoided while on the Autoimmune Protocol I refer to The Paleo Mom’s spice list. It was this list that helped me identify some of my own sensitivities.

Ingredients:
  • 2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 coriander
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 1/8 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper

I put this on my Curried Chicken Burgers, Curried Chicken Salad, and of course Curried Chicken.
